photographers at  pushkar fair 2013

Pushkar Fair, the largest Camel fair in the world, is held in the holy town of Pushkar, about 150 kms or 100 miles off Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Every year about 50,000 camels change hands between the traders who meet from remote parts of the country and even from across the border from Pakistan to buy and sell their herds of Camels. Camels are sold from anywhere between US$ 130 to US$ 2000 each. This fair has a favorite with the Photographers from around the world, with big names marking it as an annual event in their calendars. Over the years, the locals have become wiser and now know that their pictures clicked by these photographers are being sold at a very good price. So now, they demand their pound of flash before allowing the photographers to snap them. This has led to crazy situations  where a set of photographers, after negotiating with the locals, shoot their pictures as if there is no tomorrow. The locals charge anywhere between Rs.50(US$ 0.8) to Rs. 500(US$ 8). This photo essay tries to bring out the facts behind the super shots of Pushkar by the photographers... enjoy the pictures...
